Getting started .....

2/18/2014

Hello All --

I am neither a writer nor a photographer and (as my son continually reminds me) I am technology- challenged. That being said, I would like to share my experiences on my upcoming adventure with those who have expressed interest in hearing about it. Instead of emailing folks individually, I am setting this blog up so that you can check in as little or as much as you want.

Background ..... About 15 months ago, I signed up for a cross-country cycling trip with WomanTours. They will carry our gear, cook our meals and give us SAG support as well as make all the hotel arrangements. All we do is the cycling! We leave from San Diego on March 7, 2014, and arrive in St. Augustine, FL., on May 1st, approximately 3100 miles later. There will be 30 women in all (which includes a guide, a SAG driver and a cook).

I've done the best I could with training, given the brutal winter (cold temps and a lot of snow) we've been having. I've supplemented getting outside on the bike with spinning classes and putting my bike on a trainer. Today, my road bike is being shipped to a bike shop in San Diego and they will put it back together for me.

I fly to San Diego on March 5th, there is an orientation on the 6th, and then we start cycling on the 7th. Yikes ......

I'm not able to talk with my friend in S.D. (who I told you about last time you, me, and A. had lunch together) till Mar. 5, the day you leave, so I'll call you tonight to see how to get you the info. if I find out anything from her. Meanwhile, congrats on starting this blog. Looks nice.

  5. Wishing you and all of your new friends the best for this trip. Alpine is beautiful, watch out for the dips in the dunes. We will be watching you as you head east. Have fun, be safe.
