Today's ride from Salome to Wickenburg was pretty straight forward -- turn right out of the hotel in Salome onto US 60, ride 58 miles and turn left into the Quality Inn. Wickenburg is a cute town with shops and restaurants. There was no hurry to get to the hotel because check-in time was 3:00, so some of us stopped and had lunch at a restaurant in town.
We have 8 days off during this trip, about one/week. We have 8 cycling days before our next rest day, 2 down and 6 to go.
The average age of the women on the trip is approx. 57. The youngest woman is 42 and the oldest is 73.
I'm posting some pictures of our SAG vehicle that is waiting for us every 20 miles and there is a picture of a cactus. I took couple of pictures of a historical marker as I rode into Wickenburg.
jeanne, so enjoying your newsy updates + pics.
ReplyDeletethx for group demographic.
clothing is colorful...with a purpose / for visibility ?
or was it pure serendipity / availability of merchandise?
(you know my penchant for lively colors ).
query: I see that some bikes have kick stands, others do not... personal preference?
does a kick stand add drag / get caught in roadside vegetation?
do cyclists experience shoulder/ neck / back issues from leaning forward all the time? I know it's done to take strain off spine + cut down on wind resistance, but I dont think my bod could take it for very long.
thx for including shots of Wickenburg marker.
a graphic reminder of what people endured, native groups and foreign invaders both.
curious: have you noticed any wildlife such as lizards / mice / birds ?
and do the billions and billions of stars fill your night sky, so far from ambient artificial light now that you are away from.any large city?
I am glad to report that there a few twinklers out here, a real gift after the storm we had last night.
be well and remember to have fun !
