On the first day of riding, I inadvertently forgot to put sun screen on my ears, and my right ear got pretty burnt. So, I've been riding through the desert with a headband under my helmet. It's always the right side that needs extra protection, because we're going East and the sun is always on our right.
The hotel where we stayed in Salome was funky, but other than a Dollar Store and a mini-mart, that's about all there was in town.
About 6 miles before Salome, we rode through a town called Hope. One of the photos I'll post is of the sign you see leaving town. The man with whom we spoke at the gas station told us they spelled "You're" incorrectly just so it would fit on the sign.
loving your blog, Jeanne.
ReplyDeletesorry to hear about the sun burnt ear. heading East would put sun on that side until noon, then swing over to the left ear and gv you brk right?
I was curious about Salome (pronounced Sa-loom, not Sal-o-may like in the Bible). love that even such a tiny place in the desert has its Dollar Store.
should mk it easy to pick up local souvenirs inexpensively.
was surprised to learn that elevation is 1873 ft.
in my ignorance, I imagined that Arizona would be lower.
nice shot of the Mighty Colorado, very calm at this spot.
nothing like the roaring torrent coursing thru the Grand Canyon.
just a few wks ago, I was 235+ miles up river taking a tour of Hoover Dam.
somehow, that mks me feel more connected to you. :)
so pleased for you , that you've had a few less- demanding days...
especially after your strenuous start.
Good to see you're staying hydrated. Remember to use that SPF 70 I got you. I'd love to see pics of the main streets in these towns and your nightly accommodations, as I picture luxury suites and marble soaking tubs.
