61 Miles to Gold Canyon, AZ .......

The first 20+ miles of our ride today was getting out of Phoenix. They routed us through some beautiful neighborhoods. What a difference in architecture compared to New England. The flowers and shrubs (and the wonderful aromas) were a sight for sore eyes. We then rode through Scottsdale and got onto a bike path that wove around a golf course and parks. Today's picture was taken there. One of the women with whom I was riding got a flat tire there. Knock on wood-- I haven't had a flat yet, probably due to the durable tires I purchased before the ride, called Gator Skins. Then we rode through a long stretch in Mesa where there were a lot of not very exciting strip malls and lots of road construction going on.
My nose is constantly dripping as I ride (if you don't ride a bike, you don't need to read this paragraph). Usually, I use my glove to wipe my nose, but one of the women here bought some of those things tennis players wear on their wrists to wipe sweat off their brow. I bought some and they are brilliant! Mine are blue to match my PVC kit.
Now to muster up the energy to go clean the dust off my bike chain.
Tomorrow we climb. Ugh.....

  1. Hi Jeanne,
The trip sounds amazing. I have family in Phoenix, Gold Canyon and Tucson. It was neat to see the pictures from their neck of the woods. I think it is so great you are getting to connect and ride a bit with your son. Take care, I am really enjoying your blog!

  2. Jeannie:
I just caught up with your blog, read all your entries after coming home from dog-park this morning. Your photo's, and narrative are wonderful, and so glad you showed us the food after writing about it. It really looks like a well-planned tour, and one of the nice things about your blog is imagining earning those great meals with hearty appetite and lots of mileage each day, an ideal situation.
It's far from that here in Maine, with temps. so cold it's hard to go out to gym or on walks. So I'm doing all weight-lifting and yoga-mat exercises here at home, and making do for aerobics with short dog-walks. Hopefully, winter will break soon.
I guess that's why taking this virtual ride via your blog feels so good. Thank you for giving us readers a welcome lift. I'll tune in steadily from now on.

  4. Glad to hear you've got your Gator skins and mucus muffs-the right gear for the ride. And color coordinated, too. You go girl!
